About Us

Centro de Protección “de Mujer a Mujer”

The Centro de Protección “de Mujer a Mujer” serves victims of domestic and gender-based violence in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. The shelter was founded in 2001 by a group of persons who identified with and wanted to assist women in the city who were victims of domestic and gender-based violence. The center provides food, shelter, counseling, and job skills training to women and their families who have experienced domestic violence.

The vision for the shelter was born in the heart of its director and founder, the Señora Angela Fierro Sandoval. Ms. Sandoval experienced domestic violence in her home as a child. As a result of her childhood experiences, she wanted to make sure that any woman facing similar experiences would have someplace to turn for help.

    Shelter Services

Women who have experienced domestic or gender-based violence, in particular those who do not have support networks or who are at risk, can stay in the shelter for 3 months. The shelter can house 10 families with an average of 3 children per women at a time.

Ensuring the safety and well-being of the woman and her children is the first priority when a woman enters the shelter. In addition, food, clothing, shoes, and all basic necessities are provided. Other services provided without charge include therapy, legal and medical assistance, case management, and peer counseling. The shelter is available 24 hours a day 365 days per year.

The shelter provides services to anywhere from 45 to 55 women per month.

    Non-Residential Services

The center also provides services to women who have experienced domestic or gender-based violence but are not living at the shelter. The non-residential center provides services to an average of 10 women per day, not including children. Services provided without charge include case management, therapy for women and children, and legal assistance. Also, the non-residential center provides screening for entry into the shelter.
